Registrations are open for the Master Food and Society, partner of the Festival

Aperte le iscrizioni al Master Cibo e Società, partner del Festival

Registrations for the fourth edition of the Master Food & Society: Innovating Practices, Policies and Food Markets of the University of Milan Bicocca are open until March 16, 2022. The Food & Society Master is a partner of the Food Journalism Festival and will participate with an analysis and in-depth contribution to the seventh edition of the next 31 May and 1 June.

With particular attention to the concept of sustainability, the Master offers an applicative reading of Food Studies, strategic for innovating the food distribution and consumption sector. The Food & Society Master teaches how to plan individual activities or coordinated interventions in food welfare policies, within innovative food systems.

Starting from examples of good practices, an updated framework on food policies and new market orientations, the Master trains experts in the food system able to develop concrete solutions and promote new orientations in the relationship between consumers and supply chains.

To this end, from a transdisciplinary perspective, the course includes a theoretical-critical component that involves reflection on food elaborated in the tradition of Food Studies (Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, Economics, History, Politics and Law), a laboratory component that concerns some specific fields of application (Food and Citizenship, Food and Difference, Local / Global Food, Food and Legality) and a technical-practical component in which students, in addition to trying their hand at planning in the food sector (such as Design Thinking and Alternative Finance), are confronted with case studies and best practices (in the last edition the following contributed to the training offer: Associazione Està, Forno Condiviso, Food Hub, Libera Terra, Fuori Mercato, ALMA Birrificio, Panacea, Baltea 3, Food Policy Office Milan, LAC, Food Garage 66, Intavoliamo, Il Fatto Alimentare, Festival of Food Journalism, Fondazione Cariplo and Intesa San Paolo).

The Master has a tripartite structure: the first part is dedicated to lectures, based on methods, approaches and themes from several disciplines; the second stimulates the participation of students through a series of workshops, the study of case studies and testimonials; the last part is dedicated to internships and / or project works.

In the first eight months, lessons and seminars-workshops take place on Friday and Saturday mornings in mixed mode (in person and online synchronously) to give workers as well as those who live far from the University the opportunity to participate.

In the last four months, in order to enhance the skills acquired during the course within a professional context, it is possible to choose whether to carry out the internship and project work with one of our partners or to process it in the working reality in which you are already inserted.

The project work, applies the knowledge learned in the educational path, is configured as a paper that illustrates a concrete project action in order to implement the mission and purposes of the company, public or private body where the student carries out the internship or works.

The Master, in addition to having a solid interaction with local institutional realities (at the municipal, regional and national level) and with the multifaceted world of private institutions focused on the innovation of food networks and systems, since this last edition has opened to an international exchange under the European Erasmus Plus Program.

The Master is aimed both at graduates interested in working and developing innovative initiatives and ideas in the food sector, and at professionals already involved in the world of work who want to deepen their specialization and acquire the skills and authority appropriate to carry out projects of vanguard.

The Master is also aimed at all figures already operating in the world of the food industry (press office / consultants of food groups, wineries and large retailers), project managers of NGOs and food banks, teachers and officials of public institutions who are looking for higher qualification and management skills in the food sector.

Registration for the fourth edition is open until March 16, 2022.
