Chiara Tonelli: food safety is aided by science

Food Security: What Can Science Do?

30% of agricultural production (FAO data) is lost in the field due to environmental stress (drought) and pathogens (bacteria, viruses, insects…), responsible for the underproduction of plants destined for human consumption.

Gene Editing, which is different from practices related to GMOs, can make the plant more resistant and allow to reach the goal of food security that is when each inhabitant of this planet can have available, physically and economically, nutritious food and healthy in order to lead an active life.

This is what Chiara Tonelli, professor of Genetics at the University of Milan highlighted in this interview on the sidelines of the sixth edition of the Food Journalism Festival.
