Municipality of Turin: with the patronage of the Festival a step forward towards the right to adequate food
The Festival of Food Journalism has obtained the patronage of City of Turin, a reality that, over the last few years, has proven to be very attentive to the world of food, in all its aspects. The City of Turin, in fact, is the first in Italy to have thought of including, within its statute, the theme of the right to adequate food.
A proposal that requires "to promote the implementation of the right to adequate food, understood as the right to have a regular, permanent and free access to a quality food, sufficient, nutritious, healthy, acceptable from the cultural and religious point of view, which guarantees mental satisfaction and physical, individual and collective, necessary to lead a dignified life ”. The idea is part of a broader program, which has seen, over the years, develop projects such as Turin City to cultivate (Tocc), for a new relationship between agriculture and cities, and to promote the culture of food through the promotion of farmers market, charity canteens and initiatives related to school catering and food education.
Precisely in these last two areas, the Department of Educational Policies of the City of Turin promoted the project I made the menu, with the aim of involving children, teachers, families and canteen commissions in a journey on food education and conscious consumption, in a dimension of environmental sustainability. A project that has developed topics such as the containment of childhood obesity, health prevention, information on nutritional needs, labeling, and enhancement of local products "at 0 km" and the knowledge of food supply chains, the impact that production and consumption have on the environment and the consequent strategies of environmental sustainability, the right of everyone to participate in food choices and design their own territory.
With this in mind, the children of primary schools in Turin have proposed a participated menu, capable of combining health and ecological aspects.
