Why does the Festival take place in Turin?

TorinoIt will not be the capital of "eating well" in Italy nor the cradle of our kitchen. And yet Turin has been able, in recent years, to carve out a leading role in the world of food. By becoming, in fact, one of the Italian food capitals. This is why we have chosen the Piedmontese city as the seat of the Festival of Food Journalism? Not really, or better not just for this. Needless to hide: the journalists who conceived and realized the Festival are all from Turin of origin or adoption. But this was not enough to choose this city as an ideal location. To reinforce the idea of making a festival and doing it right here, in the shadow of the Mole, was instead the path of constant growth in the food sector undertaken by Turin over the last twenty years. Very strong, in Turin, is the presence of Slow Food. Which has its operations center in the heart of Piedmont. In Pollenzo, in 2004 theUniversity of Taste, the first world university to study the secrets of food and nutrition. Still in the 2004, and thanks to Slow Food, Turin has become the home of Terra Madre, the world meeting of "food communities": its objective is to bring together food communities from around the world committed, each in its geographical and cultural context, to safeguard the quality of local agro-food production. But Turin was also the city of the first Eataly, supermarket that sells only high quality Italian products, inaugurated in 2007. And it is the headquarters, from the 1996, of the Salone del Gusto, international food and wine event on quality food that directly involves producers. Thanks to all these initiatives, Turin has rediscovered itself symbol of cultural debate around the theme of food. And it is precisely for this reason that in the eyes of the organizers it seemed the ideal venue for hosting the Festival of Food Journalism. An event that aims to give a different, alternative view to the macro-theme of food: that of how food is communicated and all aspects related to it.
