Piero Fassino: "Food is culture, exchange, identity. And eating well has become a right"

"Food is culture, exchange, identity, civilization". Word of Piero Fassino. So the mayor of Turin and president Anci opened today, Thursday 25 February, the inaugural conference of the Food Journalism Festival. "I am proud that a city like Turin hosts the first edition of such an important festival, on a theme that is deeply felt by the territory.

Turin is a land of strong wine-making and gastronomic traditions and has made a further click of quality after the negative case of methanol wine. Piedmont is the third agricultural region in Italy, it is the land of wine and chocolate, of the Salone del Gusto and of Terra Madre, of Slow Food. Also for this reason it is right that Turin and Piedmont are in the front row in the battle for the spread of good, clean and tasteful food accessible to all ".

"The legacy of Expo is the covenant of mayors on food, signed in Milan during the Universal Exposition - explained Fassino -. The fact that millions of people have participated in a food event is a strong and clear message of what for the citizens has become a need: to have quality food. Attention to food is superior to the past: for Italians eating well is no longer a personal aspiration, but has become a right to claim. crazy, or mercury fish, have led to new awareness. Furthermore, today there is a greater average cultural level, which makes the subject of food face more consciously ".
