University of Turin, when "food" is studied in the University

unitedWith over 70 thousand students, 27 departments and a strong vocation for multidisciplinary research, theUniversity of Turin is one of the largest Italian universities. It is one of the main sponsors of the Food Journalism Festival, which it sponsors. The link between the University of Turin and food it is indeed strong and evident. Of the over 500 research projects that are managed here every year, in fact, well 134 cover food and nutrition issues, with approaches ranging from environmental aspects, to economics, to life sciences. In particular, they are counted 33 projects related to food - from primary and secondary production, to food security, from medical to socio-economic issues - which have obtained European funding from the 7 ° Framework Program and Horizon2020, but also specific programs, dedicated to environmental protection, to the creation of networks for the development of innovative solutions for cultivation, for the protection and management of water, or for the promotion of healthy food solutions. Furthermore, the University of Turin is the only Italian academy participating in the consortium Eit Food, the scientific and technological community of reference on the food created byEuropean Institute for Technological Innovation (EIT). At national level, the University then manages 30 projects funded by Foundations or Ministries and 71 by the Piedmont Region, which cover different areas of specialization and competence. In terms of teaching, UniTo offers numerous courses and training activities with a focus on topics related to the agri-food sector, with an overall educational offer of over 150 courses: 12 first level degree courses (from biotechnology to chemical, agricultural and environmental sciences), 12 second level (from medical sciences to the sciences of human nutrition and veterinary medicine), 3 doctorate courses e 5 Master (of which 1 is international) with a focus on agrarian, biological, veterinary and food issues, including aspects of sustainability and circular economy. Also UniTo Green Office, the tool to mobilize the competences, interests and passions of the university community on environmental sustainability through the exchange of "good practices" in the University and in the territorial poles where its activities take place, has a work group entirely dedicated to the sector Food.
