Agriculture 4.0 in Piedmont. Funds available for young people and social projects

Agricoltura 4.0 in Piemonte. Fondi a disposizione per giovani e progetti sociali

There is no quality food without quality agriculture. But quality costs. For this reason, the Rural Development Program offers impressive funding for the sector, which for the period 2014-2020 amounts to 1 billion euros, which is supported by the European Union, the Italian Government and the Piedmont Region. The latest calls will be disclosed shortly. In our region, the rural territory occupies over 55% of the total area, there are 67.000 farms, with a standard production of around 57.000 euros, an average size of 15 hectares (compared to an Italian average of 8 hectares and a European one of 13) and agriculture constitutes 4,53% of the total economic value of regional production.

The beneficiaries of the RDP are private and public subjects, individuals and associates selected through regional calls. The program not only rewards projects of traditional production increase through financing, for example for the purchase of equipment, but also and above all articulated and innovative projects that have an economic, social and cultural impact on their territory. For this reason, for example, agritourisms that are farms and that develop projects that, starting from agricultural activity, also start larger projects are also part of the projects that can be financed. The theme was addressed on Friday 21 February, on the second day of the Turin food journalism festival, taking place at the Lingotto Congress Center, in the meeting entitled "Today's agriculture, a challenge for young people, the environment and quality".
