BimbinGamba, Compagnia di San Paolo and Regione Piemonte against childhood obesity

BimbinGamba, Compagnia di San Paolo e Regione Piemonte contro l'obesita infantile

The Compagnia di San Paolo, partner of the Festival, within the ZeroSei Program for children from Turin and Piedmont in the zero-six age group and their families promoted the Bimbingamba ZeroSei action aimed at preventing childhood obesity.

The ideas developed by an expert working table led to the creation of a training activity, in collaboration with the Piedmont Region, aimed at all health personnel to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for the prevention and treatment of obesity childish and create a shared culture on the subject.

He also started the awareness campaign "Give your life a proper weight: you become bimbingamba". Conducted on a regional and semi-annual basis, the initiative unfolds through multiple actions: among these, the website www.bimbingambazerosei.it allows you to find useful tips related to a correct lifestyle and a healthy diet and presents the map of health facilities where assistance can be found.

Childhood obesity is a serious health problem but also, and above all, a social one. The data of the 2016 survey of Okkio alla Salute (surveillance system on overweight and obesity in primary school children promoted by the Ministry of Health and coordinated by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità) report that at the age of 8-9 years the 21% of Italian children are overweight and the 9,3% is obese.

Data from the northern regions of the country and Piedmont in particular (obesity 6%; overweight 18,4%), although better than average, are not reassuring. An interesting fact concerns the wrong perception that parents have of their children's weight: the 37% of mothers of obese / overweight children believe, in fact, that their child is under-weighted.

The ZeroSei program of the Compagnia di San Paolo aims to strengthen the dissemination of early childhood culture at the regional level by stimulating practices and policies for the education and care of children in a multidimensional perspective, to produce a change in the territory involved, not only in terms of increased supply and services, but rather in the community's ability to take action, to propose integrated responses, to respond effectively to new and emerging needs.

The Piedmont Region involved in the project the Health Authorities which in turn have the task of raising awareness among free choice paediatricians and family and pediatric counseling offices in involving families with the ultimate goal of promoting healthy lifestyles since childhood.
