The graphics of Piedmont at Vinitaly created by the artist Alice Ronchi

La grafica del Piemonte al Vinitaly ideata dall'artista Alice Ronchi

Artissima with Piedmont Region - Agriculture Directorate renews for the sixth consecutive year the collaboration with Piedmont Land of Perfection e Unioncamere Piemonte is preferably used for selection of a young contemporary artist to entrust the conception of the institutional image of Piedmont on the occasion of the participation in the 53 ° edition of Vinitaly

This year the event will be held in Verona twigs 7 al 10 April 2019.

The project puts two Piedmontese excellence in dialogue in an innovative and synergistic way: contemporary art and wine production. Thanks to the now historic collaboration with Artissima, Piedmont is the only Italian and European region to promote its agri-food brand through contemporary art, with a project dedicated to young emerging creativity.

Artissima, continuing with the format experimented in previous editions, designed to ensure the high artistic quality of the competing projects, invited three young curators - Ginevra D'oria, Davide Gamberetto e Giulia Gelmini - to select each three emerging artists (under 35, active on the national territory) to be involved in the participation in the competition.

The nine projects selected were submitted to the judgment of a jury composed of: Riccardo Brocardo e Franco Boasso, Sector Valorization of the Agri-food and Quality Protection System, Piedmont Region / Agriculture Directorate - Raffaele Minervini, Communication & Media Relations, Piemonte Land of Perfection - Annalisa D'Errico, Communications Office Manager, Press and Web Editor, Unioncamere Piemonte - Ilaria Bonacossa, Director Artissima - together with Simone Monsi, artist and winner of the 2018 edition, Michele Bonuomo, director of Arte Cairo Editore, Rocco Moliterni, journalist of La Stampa e Massimiliano Tonelli, director of Artribune and editorial director of the contents of the Gambero Rosso.

The winner of this edition is Alice Ronchi (Ponte dell'Olio, Piacenza, 1989) proposed by the curator Giulia Gelmini.

The jury thus motivated its decision:

"Consistent with the artist's research, the graphic and playful simplification of a grape that becomes an abstract and modular pattern convinced the jury".

To carry out the project that will represent Piedmont at Vinitaly, Alice Ronchi builds on the element from which the long and elaborate wine production process originates: the grape, which rises to iconographic symbol of all its refinements. The artist then presents a grape that is not a copy from life, but the result of a personal abstract interpretation, proposed in a pop key, colored and designed to give rise to a visual crowding out.

The single element, repeated countless times, becomes the subject and protagonist of the entire narration, giving life to a pattern abstract within which it is possible to lose one's gaze and at the same time focus on the single element.

In the artist's practice everyday objects often encounter the world of invention and fantasy. The search for "wonder" is a constant theme in the work of Alice Ronchi, populated by familiar yet enigmatic figures. Halfway between playful and minimal, his work stages a perfect synthesis between simplicity of form and geometric precision. With the use of different media, ranging from sculpture to photography and from performance to video, Ronchi questions reality through a careful and curious gaze, giving us his own magical vision.

Alice Ronchi, born in Ponte dell'Olio in the 1989 she earned an MA from the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam in the 2015 and was resident at the Vermont Studio Center in the 2017. Among the most significant exhibitions we highlight the solo exhibition "MAGESTIC SOLITUDE" (Francesca Mininni, Milan, 2018) and the group shows "VIDEOCITTÀ KIZART" by Nomas Foundation (MAXXI, Rome, 2018) and “THAT'S IT! ON THE LATEST GENERATION OF ARTISTS IN ITALY AND A METRO AND EXCITING BEYOND THE BORDER "by Lorenzo Balbi (MAMbo, Bologna). Lives and works in Milan.

The jury also gave a special mention to the project presented by Hernán Pitto Bellocchio (Santiago de Chile, 1984).

The appointment is now at Vinitaly (Pavilion 10 - stand G2), from the 7 to the 10 April 2019, in the meetings area of Piedmont, where the work signed by the artist Alice Ronchi will be the protagonist of the 2019 edition.
