Metropolitan City of Turin: with the sponsorship of the Festival, a new food culture initiative

The Festival of Food Journalism has obtained the patronage of Metropolitan City of Turin, the territorial body of vast area, including 316 municipalities, which, starting from the first of January of the 2015, replaced the Province of Turin. In line with the repositioning of a territory increasingly dedicated to culture and the promotion of its excellence, the Metropolitan City of Turin immediately proved to be sensitive and active towards the world of food, giving rise to some important initiatives.

Among the most relevant projects, there is the creation of an umbrella-brand, the Basket of Typical Products of the province of Turin, born to protect and guarantee its own heritage of typical food and wine and food. Currently 30 products are present, the DOC wines of the province, over 1000 producers, 14 sales outlets and about 115 restaurants, which participate in the annual promotion initiatives. In the same direction, the initiative Feeding Turin Metro, which, through the organization of a series of seminars and debates, wanted to bring the themes of food back to the fore, trying to write a real food policy agenda, a sort of manifesto shared with citizens and economic operators, which allows to highlight the problems to be solved and the objectives to be achieved.

A commitment that has crossed the boundaries with the project ALCOLTRA (Eco Responsible Food) in collaboration with the Conseil Général of the Department of Savoy, for the experimentation of good practices of an urban and metropolitan food strategy. The attention of the Metropolitan City also concerns the smallest and the schools of the territory, with participation in the initiative I did the menu, developed to involve children, teachers and families in a path of food education.

The Festival of Food Journalism is therefore proposed as a further piece of a virtuous and constructive puzzle that is becoming more and more composed.
