Barilla Foundation, a journalistic award on food paradoxes

BarillaIl Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition (Bcfn) is the scientific partner of the Festival. That will be an opportunity to relaunch an initiative that involves journalists and writers in the food sector. During the Turin event, in fact, will be presented Food Sustainability Media Award, a prize from the Barilla Foundation in collaboration with the Thomson Reuters Foundation, aimed at professional journalists and emerging talents, which will allow them to win an 10.000 euro prize or a completely expensed trip to a media training course on food sustainability. The protagonists of the competition are the paradoxes of our food system. Which will be the theme to be addressed. The goal is in fact to raise awareness of the media on the great global issues concerning food: from food waste to climate change, to the rights of farmers. The prize includes three competition categories - written journalism, video and photography - and it will go to those who will best represent the paradoxes of food, in addition to proposing solutions on how to fight them. Journalists, bloggers, freelancers and individuals can participate who want to present their works, both unpublished and already published, related to Food safety, To sustainability, allagriculture and nutrition. In particular, the initiative aims to shed light on three paradoxes that affect the world food system and try to find solutions. It is: Hunger vs. Obesity (for every malnourished person in the world there are two who are obese or overweight), Food vs Fuel (one third of the cereal harvest is used to feed the animals or for biofuel, despite the problem of hunger and malnutrition), Waste vs Hunger (1.3 billions of tons of edible food are wasted every day, four times the amount needed to feed 795 millions of malnourished people around the world). Also during the festival, the Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition Foundation will talk about what this is food and environmental "double pyramid", a model that promotes the Mediterranean Diet and demonstrates its benefits, helping consumers to find their way around foods that are better for our health but also for the environment.
