Canteen or sandwich: the zooprofilactic institute is about food security

Three adults out of four, in Italy, consume at least every day a meal outside the home. And the same happens to almost all school-age children. But among canteens, refectories and meals prepared at home, how food quality and safety are guaranteed?

We will talk about it 13 September at a conference organized byExperimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Piedmont (Conference Room, Turin, via Bologna 148, 9-16 hours), partner of the next edition of Festival of Food Journalism. Who will also attend the event through its director, Massimiliano Borgia, moderator of one of the panels.

To introduce the work of the conference, which is titled "Today I eat outside the home: strategies for a safe meal", will be the general director of the Institute, Maria Caramelli, the Councilor for Health of the Piedmont Region, Antonio Saitta, and Federica Patti, Councilor for Education of the Municipality of Turin. We will talk about collective catering, with particular focus on hospital canteens and food safety. Inevitably, however, you will end up facing too the theme of school canteens, which inflamed the Turin summer (and then that of other cities), following the sentence that opened the possibility for parents to give children a meal prepared at home instead of having them use the canteen service. The target? Try to understand the new problems that schools will have to face to ensure food safety, food quality and proper nutrition. And to highlight critical issues, positive aspects and improvements to current regulations with the aim of offering the best collective catering possible from the point of view of safety and health.

The event, open to 90 participants (need to be pre-registered), offers ECM credits for training to those working in the social-health field, in particular to doctors, veterinarians, biologists, chemists, prevention technicians, food technologists, technicians health, biomedical laboratory operators.
