This year, the Festival it will not only be debate and sharing of ideas, but it will also have important ones moments of experience in the field. It is called Extrafestival the program of laboratory activities open to all accredited participants who will take place simultaneously with the panels.
A way to investigate some aspects of the food universe in the hope that these activities can be useful for our work as food communicators. But also experiences from which to draw inspiration for articles and posts.
Let's start Thursday afternoon, from 14.30 to 17 with the tap water tasting laboratory led by experts from Smat, the Turin public water company. Here, we will learn that even the waters have their own taste that changes according to the dissolved minerals, a taste that is important to recognize.
On Friday 23 February, instead, from 11 to 13, it will be the turn of the truffle tasting workshop. In this case, again guided by an expert, we will try to use the sense of smell to understand the complexity of the smell (perfume, actually) of the Tuber magnatum pico, the famous white truffle of Alba, which in Piedmont is found in all the Langhe and throughout the Monferrato and which is the product of our land most celebrated and sought after by gourmets.
In the afternoon of venerdì 23 February, from 14.30 to 17, will instead be the turn of the Show Lab, the analysis laboratory on food contamination and product labeling conducted by the technicians of the Zooprophylactic Institute of Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d'Aosta and by the Chemical Laboratory of the Chamber of Commerce of Turin. Here, we will wear the white lab coat and observe the main bacterial food contaminants. Furthermore, we will observe the conformity with what is indicated on the label.
The Extrafestival workshops are limited, with 10 max rounds participants every 30 minutes.
