At the Festival there is also a fish in search of a revival, the Tinca

Al Festival anche un pesce in cerca di rilancio, la Tinca

Within the Festival of Food Journalism there will also be a space dedicated to the knowledge of a fish that was once widespread on the tables of Northern Italy but now forgotten, the Tench.

In the location of Torino Incontra, home of the 2018 Festival, there will be an information corner (with tastings) on the golden hump of the Pianalto di Poirino, the only DOP dedicated to a freshwater fish in Italy.

Furthermore, on Saturday 24 February one of the Festival press tours will be dedicated to visiting the place of the Protected Designation of Origin of this fish: the Pianalto di Poirino, in the province of Turin, on the border with Roero, where the Tench is bred for over 500 years. In the Festival press trip journalists and bloggers will be able to observe the fish ponds, the traditional artificial ponds of clay brick quarries, where these fish are bred. The tour will also be an opportunity to taste the Tinca in its traditional Piedmontese preparations.

The golden hump Tench is an ecotype of the species Tinca tinca, a cyprinid widespread in all the rivers and lakes of Italy, which has been selected over the centuries by the fry raised in the artificial ponds in the southern area of the province of Turin. It is bred up to two years and to the size of 16-18 cm to be cooked in carpione or fillets.
