Coalvi, the meat that the world envies us. The partner Consortium of the Festival

Among the themes of the Festival of Food Journalism, the promotion of the territory through food and gastronomic excellence it is one of the leitmotives since the first edition. Therefore, the partner could not miss the Consortium for the Protection of the Piedmontese Coalvi Breed, for over thirty years committed to guaranteeing the origin of Piedmontese meat, one of the pillars of the agricultural tradition of the region, to protect farmers, butchers and consumers.
Coalvi certifies every year 17.000 cattle heads from a basin of 1.400 associated farms; the labeled meat is processed in 116 accredited facilities and put up for sale in 306 participating stores. The Consortium has developed a system of traceability of meat anticipating the law, which imposed the obligation only twenty years later. The certificate displayed in the butcher shop tells the path, with its stages, from the stable to the store.
Furthermore, the 98% of certified farms are family-run, small and found in Piedmont. Guaranteeing this chain also means recognizing its environmental, social and cultural role.
