With Coalvi, Piedmontese breed cattle present themselves at the Festival

Coalvi - Consortium for the Protection of the Piedmontese Breed - will be present again this year at the Festival of Food Journalism, in a panel dedicated to animal welfare. Not only quality at the table, therefore, but also attention to the ethical aspects of production.

"In this - explains Coalvi - the Piedmontese face few rivals and the concept of well-being that for other sectors is a legal constraint, here is inherent in the way it is raised: small stables, family-run, in the classic farms, in which a differentiated production is preferred rather than an intensive specialization ". 

Tradition, however, does not preclude access to the best technological solutions that help the farmer in his work and at the same time can improve the welfare conditions of the animal. "The Festival - adds Coalvi - is the occasion to present a monitoring system of the main physiological and ethological parameters of fattening calves, which allows to elaborate an index that quantifies the level of ease in the environment in which they are found" . The future objective of Coalvi will be to give each farm a sort of wellness score, so as to be able to intervene with adequate technical assistance in the event of critical situations.
