E-commerce and food, two increasingly connected worlds

E-commerce and food sector they are two increasingly indistinguishable worlds. One of the panels of the 2019 Food Journalism Festival will focus on this theme. In fact, Thursday 21 February will talk about "E-commerce and food, information at the heart of the new way of shopping". 

While the habit of buying food products online is becoming more and more widespread, there are still many aspects to be explored, both from the point of view of consumers and those of the experts. The Festival will discuss the less obvious aspects of this theme, and yet they are very relevant. An example: how i food safety controls of the products we buy on the net? Who guarantees its quality? Are there systems capable of protecting consumers, and what can the world of information do to carry out its task in the service of citizens?

The panelists of this panel will feature members of the police and the institutions. In particular, top officials of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agricultural and Food Policies are expected, as well as the commanders of the Anti-Sophistication Units and the Carabinieri Anti-Fraud Groups.

E-commerce, which after years of hesitation finally took off in Italy too, cuba around 27 billion, and in the 2018 it grew by 16% on an annual basis. The food sector travels in the wind and worth about 40% of the total, also thanks to the diversification of the offer: shopping online is a habit for a growing slice of consumers, not to mention the ordering of food at home via apps such as Foodora or Glovo. Furthermore, according to analysts, the food market has an even greater potential for growth than other sectors, given the daily nature of food purchases.
