Do I have to trust the food that comes by bicycle?

Mi devo fidare del cibo che arriva in bicicletta?

Food delivery is growing exponentially in Italy and in the world: if in our country it moves 3,2 billion euros, with + 56% in just one year from 2018 to 2019, the global figure is 35 billion dollars and we expects it to reach 365 billion dollars by 2030. All this according to the data from Sole 24 ore presented during the meeting on the topic scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

The home delivery of lunch and dinner is radically transforming our habits so much that, says Maria Teresa Manuelli of the business newspaper, the new condominiums under construction often provide spaces dedicated to the storage of food delivered by the riders.

Growing phenomenon, all to be regulated, however, from a regulatory point of view: food delivery is talked about in the newspapers mainly because of the work status of the riders and respect for their rights as workers. But there is also another aspect that calls the journalistic analysis: the healthiness and integrity of the food transported to the customer's table. On this point Lucia Decastelli, from the Zooprophylactic Institute of Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d'Aosta reassures: a survey recently conducted by the Turin Institute in via Bologna on a sample chosen among the interested parties, has found that the cold chain and the heat in the food delivery systems was respected on the short-range transfers that the delivery system provides.

A precise regulatory framework on roles, responsibilities and reference limits for a phenomenon involving catering, delivery system and end customer remains necessary.
