Paola Maugeri: veganism means being in the world with a lighter pace

Paola Maugeri: veganismo è stare al mondo con un passo più lieve

Veganism is beauty. Word of Paola Maugeri.
The music journalist and TV presenter arrives at the Festival in the evening, risking to be trapped in traffic due to bad weather. "But I wanted to be present," he assures. Not only to talk about a topic that, you know, is important to you, but to do it, for once, in a different way: with calm tones, without frontal clashes, without fanaticism.

She has been a vegan for twenty years (even before knowing what the word meant) and a lifelong vegetarian, recently she was attacked for a provocative tweet: "The problem in the spread of veganism are the vegans themselves". He wrote it and reiterated it at the Festival. "I have a vegan passport for years, to let everyone know of my choice. But I distance myself from a certain type of veganism, a bit fanatical, heavy. To commit oneself to wanting to convince others is counterproductive, it is an approach that excludes, while for me this is an inclusive choice. Speaking of nutrition, criticizing people's habits at the table is like speaking ill of the mother: food, after all, is a maternal inheritance and the mother cannot be touched! And then - he adds - for me the example counts more than a thousand words ". Of illustrious examples, met during her career as a rock star interviewer, Paola Maugeri mentions several: Bryan Adams, Alanis Morissette, Anthony Kiedis, to say the best known.
But the one that most strikes the audience is hearing about how veganism has brought beauty into her life. He explains: "I think animals are here with us, and not for us. The greatest beauty of being vegan is then to know not to hurt them, it is to be in the world with a lighter step ”. A lightness to be achieved through awareness, even when food choices are different. "The problem is that by now we are used to eating in the profane, not giving importance to what we put on the table, to taking abundance for granted. While we should go back to eating in the sacred, to thank for the dish that is filled three times a day ”.
