Because the Festival will still talk about mafia

Perché il Festival parlerà ancora di mafia

La "Gourmet mafia" he does not shoot and does not tear up, but increasingly becomes an entrepreneur, also (and perhaps above all) in the food sector. The interest of organized crime in the agri-food sector is growing, and shedding light on such a delicate issue is fundamental, especially for the world of information. The 2018 Festival of Food Journalism will play its part, focusing the spotlight on the topic, as had already happened in the last edition, in which the prosecutor intervened Gian Carlo Caselli.

Just Caselli, commenting on the latest Agromafie report, a few months ago illustrated a new modus operandi of organized crime. It has long been known that criminal groups are already able to control a large part of the food supply chain, also drugged by plagues such as illegal hiring and racketeering. In the last period, a new phenomenon is emerging which suggests how the mafias are trying a qualitative leap: increasingly tend to detect share of restaurants and supermarkets, thus closing the circle of the underworld. In the last year, the chronicles have given ample documentation of the phenomenon, which branches more and more often also to the north. In this way criminal groups do damage twice: not only do they launder money, but they put it at risk consumer health. If the mafia can count on a distribution network of what it produces, in fact, the danger increases that on the tables of Italians (and not only) end up uncontrolled products, because the safest sales channel becomes its own the restaurant run by the gangs. In short, it is not only a question of legality, but also of Food safetyThe attention of journalists and society in general to everything related to organized crime is fundamental, because talking about the mafia is the first step in defeating it. The Festival Cosa Sarà, in his own small way, he will not back down.
