The fifth edition of the Food Journalism Festival has been presented

The fifth edition of the Festival of Food Journalism, scheduled in Turin from 20 to 22 February, also presents another important novelty: the dissemination of data emerging from the first report on the presence of the "theme" food in the Italian media. The report, conducted by L'Eco della Stampa, leader in media intelligence and press reviews since 1901, and commented by Guia Beatrice Pirotti, SDA Bocconi professor coordinator of the Master of Management in Food & Beverage, analyzed a year of food content in the media Italians, measuring their impact, intercepting the most discussed issues and analyzing the information methods.

Compared to previous years, in 2020 the Festival lengthens leading to three working days - in addition to Thursday and Friday, panels are also scheduled on Saturday morning. The location also changes: Turin will still host the event which moves to the Lingotto Congress Center, in via Nice 280.

THE NUMBERS

in three: festival days, 35 working panels will see about, during seminars and round tables 170 experts among journalists, institutions, entrepreneurs, foodbloggers, influencers, food safety professionals, chefs and representatives of the associations world who will meet in Turin to help improve the quality of information that revolves around food. In addition to the plenary moments, at the end of the working days the discussion will continue through the off events, limited numbers and reserved for journalists and bloggers. This year they will be 6: an opportunity to discover curiosities and news related to the food and wine panorama as well as a moment of relaxation and conviviality.

Due the days dedicated to B2B meetings, free and reserved for companies in the agri-food chain interested in meeting communication professionals to understand how this can support and enhance their brands and products. B2B are organized with the support of Chamber of Commerce of Turin that will involve his own Masters of Taste, the producers of Turin Cheese and branded wine-growing ones Turin DOC, but also thanks to Coldiretti's Friend Campaign e ASCOM.

They will be over 20Instead, the practical workshops free dedicated to journalists and bloggers.

PANEL PROGRAM

In addition to the food phenomenon in the media and anti-waste initiatives, some of the hottest and most controversial topics of the moment will end up in the spotlight of the Festival, such as nutritional labels that mortify the made in Italy, the critical issues of the Food delivery or unfair trading practices in the agricultural sector, with the intervention of the Minister of Agricultural and Food Policies Teresa Bellanova.

In tenth anniversary of the UNESCO recognition of the Mediterranean Diet, could not miss insights on the culture of Italian food in the world, with a panel dedicated to the return to agriculture of the PGI and PDO products and one on the last frontiers of Made in Italy: universities and space agencies of the Peninsula are, in fact, among the leaders of the most important international projects of growing food in orbit.

Particular attention will be paid to the third sector with the work table focused on the social food to shed light on how food and catering can become a vehicle for social promotion. Together with the "Ambassador of Taste" chef Cristina Bowerman, some of the most interesting experiences of inclusion and reintegration of the weaker categories of the population through “gastronomic” projects will be present.

Space also for the spread of the right eating behaviors: in fact, the first information booklet on nutrition and health aimed at citizens of Turin, by the Veronesi Foundation.

Other meetings will be more closely linked to the role of key figures in food and wine communication: the return to the scenes of Chef Rubio which will be told during an exclusive interview, while in the 65th year of the Michelin Guide we will talk about future of the guides and gastronomic magazines with a view to an evolution of reviews that also expresses the ethics of companies and restaurants. Food information professionals will tell critical issues and complications for health which invest those who make food narration their work.

A board of international journalistsinstead, it will discuss the conditions of journalistic work in Europe, with moments of reflection on precariousness, on the reforms necessary for the future of responsible and independent information. Topics that will also be discussed in another panel with the Undersecretary of the Prime Minister Andrea Martella and the president of the Order of Journalists Charles Verna. Food will also be protagonist on the radio, with an interactive panel with the public that will see the presence of some of the main Italian radio speakers.

B2B AND WORKSHOPS

The B2B moments are back, greatly appreciated by the protagonists (a hundred meetings were held last year) during which companies and industry professionals will be able to meet. Thanks to the support of Chamber of Commerce of Turin that this year too will involve its Masters of Taste of Turin and province, the wine producers of Turin DOC and the dairy farmers of Turin Cheese, and thanks also to Coldiretti's Friend Campaign e ASCOM.

In a Festival where reflection on the communication professions in the food sector is crucial, the B2B moment represents the right completion of a format based on comparison and an important opportunity for freelance colleagues to relate to companies that need to promote themselves.

The discussion tables will also be joined by the practical laboratories to respond to the growing interest of the Festival audience who are asking for more training for their work. Thanks to the collaboration with the Piedmont Region, the Chemical Laboratory of the Turin Chamber of Commerce, Maestri del Gusto, the Zooprophylactic Institute of Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d'Aosta, the Genoa Chamber of Commerce, Metro, Bonduelle, De Matteis Agroalimentare, Altroconsumo, Coldiretti in collaboration with Onafrut, INALPI in collaboration with Pepino and Albertengo Panettoni, Consortium for the Protection of Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG, Consortium for the Protection of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP, Province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, Costadoro and SMAT, participants will have the opportunity to experience practices and gain useful knowledge for food writers. From the analysis of “alien” insects in our home, at the origin of phytosanitary emergencies, to good food practices for smart shopping. From the rediscovery of typical local products such as butter and apples from Piedmont, lake fish, vermouth, Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP, DOP Riviera Ligure oil, Prosecco Superiore DOCG from Conegliano Valdobbiadene to the deepening of food "Daily" such as water, coffee, pasta, milk and ice cream. And, again, the latest news in terms of foodpairing to promote circular cuisine and finger food. A real contest will compete the participants in the preparation of the traditional Ligurian pesto: the winner will participate in the final of the "Pesto al Mortaio" world championship scheduled in Genoa on March 28th.

EVENTS OFF

As in previous editions, at the end of the first two days of work and during the third, the discussion will continue outside the Congress Center, through a series of off events reserved for journalists and bloggers to discover curiosities and news of the Turin food and wine panorama.

Thursday 20 February, from 19.30: "Invitation to the Palace"

At Palazzo Birago, courtroom of the Turin Chamber of Commerce, an aperitif where the typical characteristics of the Masters of Taste of Turin and province will be supported by the proposals of the Regional Wine Enoteca of the province of Turin, by the professionals of theONAV and the creative mixology of the cocktail bar Allied Products on a food and wine journey between excellence and innovation (Palazzo Birago, Via Carlo Alberto 16).

Friday 21, from 20: "How to reinvent the food bag"

A special cooking lesson on how to reinvent the food bags in a more glamorous and sustainable way. Tips and tricks for reusing the foods we bring home in a healthy and original wayHERE (Italian Cuisine Teachers Association) in collaboration with the journalist and cooking teacher Veronica Geraci. Friday 21 February from 19.30: "Author street food"

The restaurant Soul Kitchen invites to a gourmet and creative reinterpretation of typical street food. In collaboration with Funny Vegan and with the chef and owner of Soul Kitchen Luca Andrè, a tasting menu will be created with innovative products, recreating the classic flavors of street food. Saturday 22 February from 8.30 am: "Breakfast with the Festival"

A substantial breakfast with the Food Journalism Festival to open the third day of work to bring the public's attention back to the importance of the first meal of the day. With the contribution of Eataly, Inalpi, Costadoro and Panificio Ficini. (Lingotto Congress Center, Via Nizza 280).

Saturday 22 February, starting at 9,30: "A ride from the Masters"

A walking tour to discover some of the excellences of Porta Palazzo, among the liveliest and most fascinating neighborhoods of Turin. It starts from Affini Rivendita2 for a "Masters" breakfast in the company of the Master Coffee Alice Scitano, to then visit some of the Masters of Taste of Turin and the province that inhabit the area. Saturday 22 February, starting at 13pm: "Eataly experience"

An itinerant aperitif among Eataly Torino Lingotto's departments and live production laboratories. Together with a guide, you will discover the secrets of what was once the Carpano factory. Walking in the Eataly Lingotto Market it will be possible to taste from appetizers to desserts: a real journey through the colors, smells and flavors of regional specialties from all over Italy. For the reception of all participants, the Festival will be able to count on the support of Institutes Maggia di Stresa (VB) and Beccari of Turin.

The lunch on Thursday 21 February will be offered by the Turin restaurant Bacalhau Osteria Turin, famous for its menu 100% dedicated to Cod: the chef Fabio Montagna will serve a classic of our tradition, polenta and cod. The lunch on Friday 22 February will be marked by edible flowers with a menu signed by the chefs Gianfranco Calidonna and Roxana Rondan, in collaboration with the association Palette restaurants. Bread will be offered by Fabaro bakery. In both lunches the chefs will use products offered by Coldirectthe. The water for the two lunches will be provided by SMAT and coffee for breaks from Costadoro. All compostable tableware used during the Festival is made available by reBOX and Edenred .
