L'Jacopo Bruno Beccari Institute of Turin, partner of the Festival of Food Journalism, will host Thursday 10 May in the Great Hall "Lea Garofalo" the fourth edition of Enogastronomic-cultural competition "Let's break down the walls of silence", dedicated to victims of the fight against the mafia.
After having titled theedition of 2017 al prosecutor Bruno Caccia, killed by the 'ndrangheta in the 1983, the organizers of the initiative have significantly dedicated the 2018 prize to Renata Fonte, Councilor for Culture and Public Education of the Municipality of Nardò (Lecce), assassinated by two hitmen with three gunshots the 3 March of 1984 as he returned to his home. From the three levels of judgment the material executors, the intermediaries and the principal of the first level, Antonio Spagnolo, have been identified and condemned. The latter, a party colleague of Renata and the first of the non-elected in the local elections, would have ordered to kill for resentment against Renata Fonte. Next to a personal aversion of Spanish, the first instance sentence of the Court of Assizes of Lecce declares the presence of unidentified characters, who would have had objectives unattainable with the election of Renata Fonte: the construction of a tourist village on the natural area of Porto Selvaggio.
At the "Beccari" will be present as a member of the jury of the competition la daughter of Renata Fonte, Viviana Matrangola, already responsible for the international sector of "Free memory". The enogastronomic competition among the students is the point of arrival of a training and education on legality shared with two others hotel institutes, "Cascino" of Palermo and"Moccia" of Nardò. In the educational path that preceded the competition, the students participated in a series of training meetings on issues of civic engagement and defense of legality.
Thursday May 10th female students and students will compete in the final challenge in two of the articulations that characterize the structure of the hotel institutes, the bar room andtourist reception. Filming of the entire initiative will be carried out by the crew of the TV program "Gente di Montagna".
