From Hoepli manuals to communicate food and tourism

Da Hoepli manuali per comunicare cibo e turismo

A series of useful manuals also for journalists, food writers and bloggers. Nicoletta Polliotto with her Muse Communication partner of the Food Journalism Festival of Turin, has recently arrived at the position of head of the DMT - Digital Marketing Tourism series for the prestigious Ulrico Hoepli Editore.

"The Italian entrepreneurs and restaurateurs - explains Nicoletta Polliotto - find in the series operative suggestions, strategic tools and virtuous case studies to organize their work. Organic structured advice with publication continuity.

Today, it becomes superfluous to separate the restaurateur's strategy from that of the receptionist of a territory. A pizza maker, a hotelier, a tour operator have much more in common than they can imagine: great opportunities arising from a wise use of technology, digital and innovation.

Each book that is presented in the series of technical manuals, balanced between management and marketing, analyzes in a panoramic, but exhaustive, way an approach or field of study, creating relationships and bridges with the other volumes of the series. DMT will have an output rhythm of 3-4 titles every year, starting this year ”.

Where did the idea of a series dedicated to digital and hospitality come from?

"Everything originates from a chain of events. In the 2018 my book "Digital Food Marketing" comes out, the guide with which the restaurateurs can build a personalized plan of promotion and sale. On the same days, Michela Mazzotti's “Tourist Marketing Web and beyond” is published, dedicated to hospitality inside and outside the network.

Seeing them both in a showcase of a bookstore here in Turin, gives me an idea that the management of Hoepli Editore appreciates: because we do not create a path to grow operators gradually, supporting them in preparing communication and promotion, in the creation of digital and technological culture, overcoming fears, barriers, limits that Italian companies often pose to themselves?

Thus, DMT - Digital Marketing Tourism was created to bridge the editorial gap that embraces an important sector, such as tourism, with an impact of NNUMX% on the Italian GDP, to which the agribusiness numbers (13% of GDP) are added. The will is to respond to the need of knowledge of the operators of the sector, in a logic that is always more onlife, because the dividing line between online and offline has become increasingly thin: digital channels must be controlled with a conscious and strategic approach. Multiple sectors in the management of a territory or a structure are converging. I can't do management or revenue if I don't have clear visions and strategies in digital communication and in product and relationship marketing management. I cannot improve the destination and the hotel if the campsite and the restaurant lag behind ”.

But who then is the reader of your books? Won't they be too difficult, boring, technical for the sector operators?

"We have the ambition to create simple but never trivial manuals, to make the reader understand the importance of each theme, the vision of how the company will benefit from it, the best strategy to adopt it, the good practices to be inspired and the cases of study that have chosen and applied it.

The aim of the series is to embrace the entire hospitality sector and this in numbers means: over one million and 300.000 employees in the agro-food sector, 333.647 administration activities, of which 181.317 restaurants (Fipe 2017); 32.988 hotels, 104.661 holiday homes, 18.771 farmhouses, 34.202 b & bs (Istat 2017).

All the incoming specialists are also the beating heart of the sector: from tour operators to travel agencies, guides and tour guides, event managers who deal with promoting experiential activities and entertainment in general. Those who deal with services related to the world of hospitality and hospitality. Restaurateurs and administrators in general, lifeguards, ice cream makers, pastry chefs, sommeliers ".

What books can you already find in the bookstore?

"The first book in the series is" Digital Marketing Extra Hotel "by Domenico Palladino, dedicated to those who work in non-hotel hospitality and who want to create a perfect experience for the customer. Currently we also have the books by Michela Mazzotti and mine that I was quoting from you before ”.

Can you tell us something about upcoming releases?

“Now comes out" Digital strategy for tourism "by Sara Caminati, which starts from the digital scenario and then delves into the useful tools to know to outline its digital strategy. Many other titles are in the works, including one dedicated to the production and distribution of food photographs to promote promotion on social media and a manual to govern technology and innovation, from blockchains to new payment systems (mobile payment and cryptocurrency). And then again hotel distribution, new tourists and new needs, food and wine Tourism. And in these summer days I have developed some ideas for other compelling titles. Italian hospitality is not only a business opportunity, it is adventurous ”.

Future projects?

“From the series project, which allowed me to create a team of authors, with brilliant minds and great vertical knowledge, two spin-offs are emerging: the first is Caffè digitale, a series of presentations in which the authors meet while sipping ... something just coffee, why not! With regards to this, the billboard with the dates is coming.

Secondly, the idea of my Laboratory was born: Digital Food Marketing Lab, a traveling school with days of immersive lessons on contemporary and urgent topics. The cities for now are Milan and Turin, soon to be joined by Bologna and Genoa ”.

To keep in touch with the new series you can follow the Facebook Digital Marketing Tourism page to get information, get the latest news and contact the necklace director and the authors because the manuals are alive and continue to grow even when they went to print and the reader bought them and read them. In the Events section you can also stay aligned with presentations and speeches that we will take around Italy.
