Food Bag mandatory in restaurants, our petition on change.org

Food Bag obbligatoria nei ristoranti, nostra petizione su change.org

On the national day against waste, the Food Journalism Festival launches one petition on Change.org to make the food bag mandatory in restaurantsthe. The hashtag is #foodbag requiredto. You can join on change.org/foodbag

But why does a journalistic festival promote a campaign to make a box mandatory to take home the leftover food paid?

Because the "physical object" food bag in itself represents a formidable communication tool for a good practice: that of putting aside the food left on the plate for another lunch. But also because the food bag box lends itself to being a vehicle of information, in particular for the correct storage of food (in this case advanced food).

For this reason, in support of this idea of food bag as a communication vehicle, the Festival will distribute its food bag to all participants who come from 20 to 22 February at the Lingotto Congress Center. A box with handles with the brand of the Festival, which contains another box suitable for contact with food. On the inside of the bag there is the decalogue of food conservation with the useful information to safely consume the food contained in the food bag.

The petition on Change.Org bears the title "Compulsory food bag at the restaurant" and is addressed to the Minister of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies; to the Minister of Health and to the President of the Agriculture Commission of the Chamber of Deputies.

The petition wants to support a real Law proposal, in the form of an amendment to the "Gadda Law" against waste, the 2016 law which bears the name of the honorable Maria Chiara Gadda, first signatory of that law that will be present at the Festival Friday 21 February.

The amendment is to article 10 of the Gadda law and aims to make the delivery of the Food bag mandatory in every exercise and in every event where food and drinks are administered (we also ask for a container for wine and non-carbonated drinks). Not an optional delivery but a real obligation for merchants, even if the customer does not ask for it.

In Italy, in fact, customers do not request the food bag because it is not practical, but also because they are ashamed.

It will be up to the market to identify future food bag designs that make carrying in a bag and backpack more practical, while compulsory, over time, will have the power to eliminate the psychological problem that customers have today regarding the request to take home. leftovers, get paid.
