Italian sugar supports the Festival

Lo zucchero italiano sostiene il Festival

Made in Italy innovation at the service of healthy eating. There Cooperative of Italian Beet growers (COPROB), the only local reality in the national sugar sectorand present on the market with the Italia Zuccheri brand, will be present at the Festival of Food Journalism.

With its 250 permanent employees, in addition to seasonal 300 operating in the two plants of Minerbio (Bologna) and Pontelongo (Padua), COPROB brings together 7mila farms (of which 4.985 contributing shareholders) that manage 30 thousand hectares sown with beets among Emilia Romagna and Veneto, where more than 2 millions of tons of beets are produced every year, whose processing gives rise to about 280 thousand tons of sugar. Italy has a sugar consumption of 1.700.000 tons, the third largest consumer market in Europe.

The objective of the Cooperative is to maintain the current hard core of production, which today only covers the 16% of the national sugar requirement. To cope with the inevitable arrival on the Italian market of large foreign multinationals - following the liberalization of sugar - COPROB has decided to play ahead in two directions. The first is to leverage on the social base, which has always been its strong point together with the flexibility and multiformity of its organization, to fully exploit national production as a guarantee of continuity of supply for the agri-food industry, as well as certification in terms of quality. and environmental. The second, take the road of innovation. A choice that required huge investments in research and development to further enhance the quality and Italian quality of the products.

Meanwhile, the novelty for the 2019 will be the bio: COPROB is in fact working on the creation of the first Italian Organic Sugar Sector.
