In light of the current pandemic, this year's World Disco Soup Day (WDSD) goes digital.
Slow Food Youth Network (SFYN) and Slow Food WDSD hosts will cut, cook and dance in their homes while streaming online on Facebook and Twitter.
World Disco Soup Day is a collective event to combat food waste and climate change. It is the day when the SFYN groups organize parties and transform food waste into a "disco soup".
It is an event for cooking, eating and dancing together, showing the fun way to save food by seriously thinking about the amount of waste and the solutions at hand.
A third of the food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted globally, along the supply chain, from the fields to our homes. It is a waste of resources, it affects the right to food of quality people all over the world and increases greenhouse gas emissions.
«Despite blockages and quarantines all over the world - we say to Slow Food - we want to tackle this problem and raise public awareness. In previous editions, SFYN has transformed 50.000 kilograms of food into thousands of delicious meals, involving thousands of activists on all five continents. We are convinced that we can do the same online. You are all invited to participate in the WDSD events through your social channels and SFYN (@worlddiscosoupday and @slowfoodyouthnetwork) on April 25th, watching or streaming your disco soup. Thousands of participants should take part all over the world, all day long, and share the feeling of a global Slow Food community ».
